Reasons Why Some Jewelry Greens Your Skin

If you've ever bought cheap jewelry that leaves a greenish in color spot on your skin you've most likely asked yourself what the cause is. Most Often - your skin is reacting to basic metals to people who buys and wears low cost jewerly. The greening can occur to some faster than others~ though, because everyone's composition is just a little bit different. Even jewelry you pay more for can have the same effect- reason being it's not one hundred percent pure; regardless of gold or silver content. Platinum rarely reacts with skin so there should be no concern if you own platinum jewelry.
To keep gold jewelry making your skin green make sure that you don't have gold plated or gold rinsed jewelry – its a cheaper metal with a thin gold layer that will wear off. For 100% gold jewelry thats not rinsed or plated opting for 18 karat will lower your chances of green skin.
Copper will almost always turn your skin green and there isn't a whole lot you can do about that. Avoid sweating in your jewelry it can increase the green skin effect you might also ask your jeweler if they can add a layer of protective coating – in order to try to stop the reaction or minimize it. If you can find something to keep the reaction to a minimum you can keep wearing your base metal jewelry without worry.
Just remember~ your skin turning green is a harmless reaction. It's just a skin reaction and not an allergic reaction.
Allergies (such as those to nickel) will make you red and also will make your skin inflamed and itchy. Which is a far cry from green skin.
If you do get an allergy to a piece of jewelry stop wearing that right away. If it's only turning your skin green you can certainly continue wearing it as long as you like you'll just have to keep the area clean to avoid having it look bad.
At the end of the day applying a coating is probably the answer.
